2011 Goodrich Vineyard
In the Vineyard
Goodrich Vineyard is a state-of-the-art, high-density vineyard developed in 2007 with regulated deficit irrigation on Willakenzie sandstone and Hazelair clay loam soils. It is located in the northern part of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, just outside the small town of Yamhill, Oregon. We’ve worked with this site since it first started producing fruit in 2010. With vintage 2011, these young Pinot noir Pommard clone vines still ripened rather quickly and were among our first harvested with chemistry at 21.5 Brix, 3.5 pH and 5.6 TA.
At the Winery
Grapes were 100% destemmed and cold soaked for seven days. Then the fermenters were warmed to 75ºF and inoculated with BM 45 yeast, an isolated strain from Italy’s famed sites in Montalcino. The juice fermented for 18 days before press-off and was racked to 13% new French oak barrels by Remond and Tonnelier O. Wines rested in barrel for nine months before this particular selection of barrels for the vineyard designated cuvee were blended and settled back in barrel for another two months prior to bottling.
At the Table
Medium garnet color, clear and bright. A shy aroma of roasted brown tea on the nose, this wine enters the palate broadly with rich and ample flavors of cola and sassafras. Smooth and silky, the wine is showy and drinkable now through 2018.
