2007 Vintage
The 2007 growing year was challenging to be sure, but we had substantial heat unit accumulation and ripening during the summer months. This drove solid tannin development. The challenge came with the rain storms during the last few weeks of the vintage, just as the fruit was coming ripe.
We used some "winemaker's intervention" during fermentations, using extremely cold, long pre-fermentation soaks, and using enzymes during primary fermentation. Then we heated up the fermenters and got the wines in and out quickly to keep bitterness to a minimum.
In leaner vintages like 2007, Pinot noir often evolves slowly. The young wines are not full of obvious fruit. Rather, their nuanced details, complex tight flavors and layered tannins shroud the wines until the fruit begins to reveal itself and provide balance.

Wine & Spirits "This youthful gris leads with a brisk scent of citrus, a mildly herbal top-note of celery leaf and a whiff of smoke. Its crisp flavors suggest Texas grapefruit; the firm texture would support poached salmon." - Patrick Comiskey The Oregonian "The color is pale straw, but nothing's pallid about this crisp, bracing, elegant wine that will refresh on the most torrid and torpid summer day. It has just a bit of acidity, with flavors hinting at astringent citrus such as grapefruit. If you've been searching for a wine to go with Asian food, here's an austere number to pair with the Thai satays, spicy curries and many chile-laden tropical dishes." - Roger Porter |

Wine & Spirits "From Shea Vineyard, where the vines in sedimentary soil over fractured sandstone produce some of Oregon's finest pinots, this wine is both forward and elegant. Scents of forest floor and a wisp of smoke surround the black cherry flavors, all held in suspension by fine cherry-skin tannins. It's built for the long haul, and it will reward tea-smoked duck with wild mushrooms if you open it along the way." - Patrick Comiskey |

Wine & Spirits "Floral scents mingled with this wine's black raspberry aroma and a fine cedary sheen from the oak. The fruit is more reticent on the palate, the wine still snug in its wood. Cellar time will allow the elements to knit." - Patrick Comiskey |
