Gruner Veltliner

Grüner Veltliner is a white wine grape variety grown primarily in Austria, Slovakia and in the Czech Republic.  But recently, its taken root in Oregon on our Estate Vineyard site! Grüner has a reputation of being a particularly food-friendly wine; that’s how we fell in love with it upon tasting it in a high-end Thai restaurant in Chicago.  Spicy food loves this steely, acid-driven wine that can punch through to clense the palate and cool the heat.

We produce our gruner veltliner in stainless steel, and aim to capture the limey acidity, and pleasant phenolic bitterness typically displayed by this grape. In warm years, such as 2014, the wine can display a rich mid-palate, with pear and pear-skin qualities that jump from glass.

2015 Estate Grüner Veltliner

Aromas of Asian pear, exotic starfruit, melon, and white musk waft from the glass on a wave of floral talc. Bright, green apple; lime zest; and almond, finishing on a peppery note, offers a classic Gruner flavor profile. The palate is tense and energetic thanks to integrated acidity that lifts and lengthens the memorable finish.
